I think I’ve finally gotten a solid opinion on it, and I believe it’s unique and worth your time.
Before I begin, I’ll recap the situation for anybody that hasn’t heard. a href=http://digg.comDigg/a is a social networking website in which users submit news stories and vote (digg) stories they find interesting to get them to the front page and viewed by everybody that visits it. On May 1st, 2007, a user posted a string of numbers that could help people backup/ play HD-DVDs, a next gen media medium that allows people to view movies in high definition. As one would expect, Digg recieved a take-down notice from AAC LA, the company that works on DRM for HD-DVDs, requesting that the story be removed containing the encryption code. Digg complied and removed the story, and was met with a 21st century riot of users resubmitting the code over and over (see screenshot at top left).
Here’s an example of why I think it’s wrong that this encryption code is being posted on Digg:
Suppose somebody has a 32bit password protecting their bank account. They go on vacation somewhere for a week and, in that time period, somebody manages to crack their account and steal their money. It doesn’t end there though - the cracker turns around and posts the person’s password on Digg.com for the entire world to see. Is it wrong for Digg to censor that password? In that way, the number should be protected.
Contrary to popular belief, being on the internet doesn’t give a person immunity from all laws. If Digg’s members decided to become a community of child porn, would that be okay? Should Kevin Rose (founder of Digg) change his stance to back up the members? I appreciate him trying to appeal to our wants and support our cause, but there are better ways to do it. It’s pretty immature for people to post on Digg saying YEAH, DON’T TAKE THE CRAP FROM AAC LA! STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN AND BTW (LAWLZ), HERE’S THE KEY AGAIN! They don’t own the site… they’re only building up a base of evidence for when AACS LA do try to prosecute Digg.
I’m completely for DRM free media, but I think that there are better ways to represent your opinions. Could people please gain some maturity and handle the issues better? I’m disappointed in Digg.!– Traffic Statistics –

way to go”, using an online GTD and what not; it’s supposed to help you keep track of a ton of different assignments and also get them done… my experience was not quite the same as promised.
missing in Zirrus. Some of that functionality includes the ability to customise the look and feel of your menus and the ability to send your lists to email or a cell phone via SMS (for free). It’s so nice to be able to have a copy of your grocery lists on a cell phone to check off as you’re going down the aisles… you aren’t living the new generation unless you are!!!
